Organized on August 12th, 1935, IAFF Local 439 has proudly represented the professional firefighters of the Elgin Fire Department for 89 years. IAFF Local 439 has grown to represent over 130 professional career firefighters. Our members currently provide Fire and EMS services to over 113,000 residents within the City of Elgin while responding from 7 fire stations throughout the city. Our members respond to all types of emergencies, responding to 16,000 calls for service in 2024! 

Local 439 is deeply invested in our community. From collecting money on the streets for MDA or spending time with our Fire Buddies, we are always looking for a way to get involved and to give back to the community. We proudly sponsor sports teams, donate money to local cancer patients, raise money for local families in need, and attend multiple events throughout the year to be a better partner with the community. 

As a labor union, we firmly understand that we need to fight for our members' rights. Whether at city council meetings or at the state capitol, Local 439 has a strong history of representing our members and fighting for their rights and protection. We are a politically active labor union that endorses candidates that best suit our members' needs.
